BCCI
administrator Amitabh Choudhary passes away

Former BCCI
administrator Amitabh Choudhary passed away on Tuesday morning. Amitabh
Chaudhary had suffered a heart attack and breathed his last at a private
hospital in Ranchi.

Former
President of Jharkhand State Cricket Association Dr Nafees Akhtar said that
Chaudhary was in good health and this news is absolutely shocking. Dr Akhtar
called his senior ‘Mr Jharkhand Cricket’.

Chowdhary
was the person who made Jharkhand cricket grow. He was the head of the state
association for more than a decade. He had shifted the headquarters of
Jharkhand Cricket from Jamshedpur to Ranchi. Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s rise as a
cricketer contributed to this. But it was the job of the administration and
Chaudhary led from the front.

A world
class cricket stadium was built in Ranchi under the supervision of Amitabh
Chaudhary and one end of the stadium was named after him. Dr Akhtar said in a
conversation with The Indian Express, ‘It is not worth thinking about. He was a
great leader, our guardian. However, he was not there officially after leaving
the post of JSCA President. As far as Jharkhand cricket is concerned, it cannot
be compensated. It seems like we have lost everything.

Choudhary
served in the JSCA for over a decade and was also the BCCI Joint Secretary.
During the governance of the Committee of Administrators in the Cricket Board,
he also served as the Acting Secretary.

Former BCCI
treasurer Anirudh Chaudhary has condoled the demise of the administrator. In a
conversation with the Indian Express, Chaudhary said, ‘Amitabh’s contribution
to cricket in Jharkhand was immense. JSCA will Always miss him and it will be
difficult to fill his place in Jharkhand. I extend my condolences to his
family, friends and well wishers.

Former IPS
Chaudhary also played a role in politics. But cricket was his passion. He was
also the manager of the Indian team during the 2005-06 Zimbabwe tour. There
were reports of a dispute between Sourav Ganguly and Greg Chappell on this
tour. Thereafter, Amitabh Choudhary worked under the CoA and BCCI and faced the
challenge of difficult administrators. He was also a witness to the Virat Kohli
and Anil Kumble controversy, where Kumble had to be dropped from the Indian
team.
