Dhawan broke his silence on KL Rahul being made the captain of the ODI team,
gave a big statement

Indian
vice-captain Shikhar Dhawan expressed happiness over the return of KL Rahul and
said that he will get a lot of advantage through the Zimbabwe series (ZIM vs
IND) ahead of the Asia Cup 2022. Rahul is coming back after a long time and he
was earlier selected for the Asia Cup. However, on passing the fitness test,
the right-handed batsman was included for the tour of Zimbabwe and was
appointed the captain of the team.

Rahul has
not played any competitive cricket since IPL 2022. He was named captain of the
team for the home series against South Africa but was ruled out due to injury a
day before the start of the series. After that he had to undergo surgery. It
was expected that he would be seen in action during the T20 series against West
Indies, but due to being a victim of Kovid-19, he was disappointed here too and
he missed the series.

However, now
that he is fit, he is ready to lead the team on the Zimbabwe tour. Veteran
batsman Shikhar Dhawan was named captain for the first tour but was appointed
vice-captain after Rahul returned.

In a press
conference held in Harare on Tuesday, Shikhar Dhawan said,

It is great
news that KL is back in the team and leading the team. He is one of the key
players of the Indian team. In view of the upcoming Asia Cup, this is a good
opportunity for them. I am sure he will gain a lot from this tour.

India have
clean sweep Zimbabwe in their last three series but Shikhar Dhawan is in no
mood to take the opposition team lightly. On the other hand, Zimbabwe’s recent
performance has been very good and the team has defeated Bangladesh in both T20
and ODI series. In this way their confidence will be very high.

Shikhar
Dhawan praised Zimbabwe’s recent performance and said,

It is a good
thing that they won against Bangladesh. They are playing good cricket. This is
a good thing for us. We will not take anything lightly. A good team always pays
attention to its process. We should make sure that whenever we take on a team,
we do our process properly. Our focus will be on winning.
